The Smithtown Fire Department responded to five calls in thirty minutes time late in the afternoon of February 16. It took close to twenty fire and EMS personnel to answer the alarms. Calls ranged from EMS requests to an elevator rescue, a motor vehicle accident, wires down and odor in a building.
While a wholly voluntary department the number of members who work at home or in Town, are students, retirees or off duty career police or firefighters allows SFD to respond rapidly to emergencies 24/7.
