Several times each year the Smithtown Fire Department holds refresher drills to reinforce and relearn important rescue skills.
On Monday, March 8, the Department held an air bag and cribbing refresher. Air bags are used to displace objects such as cars, trucks and other heavy items that cannot easily be lifted with basic equipment.
Cribbing are temporary wooden structure deployed to support the load being lifted.
Two scenarios were held. The first replicated a victim trapped under a van, while the second simulated the rescue of a worker trapped under a dumpster.
