The Smithtown Fire Department was toned out for a 16/23 (motor vehicle accident/ambulance requested) at 12:50 pm with the location of Route 111 and Tanglewood Drive.
The call was quickly upgraded to a heavy rescue with the driver of one of the three cars involved not able to self-extricate from their vehicle.
The crew from Smithtown Rescue 9 popped the door allowing the driver to be placed on a backboard and stretcher for transportation to the hospital.
One patient was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center with minor injuries.
On scene were Smithtown Chiefs (4-2-31) Landrigan, (4-2-32) Fitzpatrick, Rescue 4-2-9, Ambulances 4-2-64, 4-2-65, Fire Police 4-2-10.
