The Smithtown Fire Department was toned out for a 16-23 (motor vehicle accident/ambulance requested) at 12:19 pm on Sunday, February 18 with the location of the intersection of Routes 111 and 347.
Upon arrival units went to work on a two car accident with serious injuries to two occupants of each vehicle. A head on collision occurred in the westbound lanes of 347.
Three of the injured were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, while a fourth was transported to St. Catherine of Siena Hospital.
The patient transported to St. Catherine passed away at the hospital after her arrival.
On scene at the MVA were Chiefs 4-2-32 (Diecidue), 4-2-33 (Duckham), Engines 4-2-4, 4-2-5, Rescue 4-2-9, Ambulances 4-2-61, 4-2-62, 4-2-64, 4-2-65 and Fire Police 4-2-10.
