The Smithtown Fire Department was toned out for a signal 13 (structure fire) at 19:57 (7:57 pm) on Monday, March 26, 2018, with the location of 227 Edgewood Avenue.
Upon arrival, the fire was quickly upgraded to a 13-35 (working structure fire).
The fire building was a single family two story wood frame structure. The home was fully involved with units on scene conducting an exterior attack with handlines, engine deck guns, and the tower ladder.
The home was under renovation, with no occupants on the premises.
The home was the 173-year-old Ebo Hill Mansion that was empty for 17 years until its recent purchase. The new owner had hoped to restore the property to its original condition.
The fire was brought under control at 22:21 (10:21 pm).
There were no injuries at the scene.
Cause of the fire is under investigation by the Smithtown Fire Marshal and the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad.
On scene were Smithtown Chiefs 4-2-30 (Landrigan), 4-2-31 (Fitzpatrick), 4-2-32 (Diecidue) 4-2-33 (Duckham). Engines 4-2-2, 4-2-3, 4-2-4, 4-2-5, 4-2-15, Ladder 4-2-7, Rescue 4-2-9, Fire Police 4-2-10, Ambulances 4-2-61, 4-2-62, 4-2-63, 4-2-64.
Addition units on scene and on main house standby were from St. James Fire Department, Nesconset Fire Department, Kings Park Fire Department, Hauppauge Fire Department, Nissiquogue Fire Department, Commack Volunteer Ambulance, CI/Hauppauge Ambulance.
