A review of the February response statistics show that the Smithtown Fire Department responded to 296 alarms. Of these calls, 185 were ambulance responses while 111 were fire or rescue alarms. With a few heavy snowfalls in February, the Department kept busy with numerous responses to weather-related motor vehicle accidents and electrical and communication wires down. The Department also supplied a mutual aid ambulance to Port Jefferson in response to the Piper small plane crash.
